Six Interview Dos and Donts
Six Interview Dos and Donts Facebook6TweetLinkedInPinEmailShares6 In order to make sure your next interview is a success, there are a few rules worth knowing. These days, the job market is SO competitive that its not enough to just turn up to an interview and hope for the best, you need to impress the employer in order to stand out from the others. Although every interview is different, we have 6 dos and 6 donts to help you come across as a superstar candidate in your next interview. DOs 1. Handshake When entering the interview room its important that you shake the interviewers hand. This needs to be a strong, firm handshake to show to the interviewer that you are a confident individual. 2. Dress To Impress First impressions count and although we say you shouldnt judge a book 3. Hold Eye Contact 4. Research, Research Research Have you researched the role and the company to the best of your ability? If so, show this off to the interviewer 5. Listen up During the interview, listen carefully to what the interviewer is asking so that you respond accordingly to the questions asked and to make sure you dont repeat anything that has already been discussed. 6. Show Your Interest If you are interested in the role, make sure that you show this to the interviewer. You can do this Dont s 1. Turn Up Late Turning up late immediately creates a bad impression, you come across as unreliable, unorganised and a risky candidate. We advise arriving 10-15 minutes early. In order to prevent turning up late, do a practice run before the interview to make sure you know how long the journey takes and which route is best. 2. Bad-mouth No matter what the question is or how informal the interview, dont bring other people into it. Bad mouthing ex-employers or colleagues makes you come across as an untrustworthy and troublesome employee. You will appear very unprofessional and immature. 3. Come Unprepared Dont turn up empty handed! You should always bring a copy of your CV to the interview along with any examples or work or portfolios that you have. Recruiters and hiring managers usually let you know whether theyd like you to bring anything with you so make sure you check your emails beforehand to avoid looking unorganised or forgetful. 4.Use Your Phone Dont put your phone on the table and make sure that its tucked away in your bag on silent to avoid any disturbances. Even when you are in the waiting room, avoid using your phone it looks unprofessional. From their perspective, you could be playing games, taking selfies or worse! 5. Dont Interrupt When the interviewer is talking, you should be listening and engaging with them. Avoid interrupting them at any point or coming across as rude. If you cant impress and listen during the interview then surely you wont be much better in the office. 6. Discuss Other Opportunities When you are at an interview all of your focus should be on that particular role. Avoid mentioning other roles that you are interested in or other job offers that you have received. Discussing other opportunities makes you look as though you are not interested in that particular opportunity but just in any old job.
